The Spanish Serenade by David Popper is one of six dances written for cello and piano in the Opus 54. David Popper (1843 to 1912) was a bohemian cellist who taught at the Budapest Conservatory, and was the teacher of Schiffer, who was the teacher of Starker who was the teacher of Harbaugh. Popper is well-known among cellists as the composer of 40 extraordinary etudes that all cellists must learn.
